Song of the week: Wake Up Everybody (John Legend)

Wake Up Everybody

John Legend, Melanie Fiona, The Roots & Common

Usually when I write I need a fast and urgent soundtrack, something like Pitbull or David Guetta. I'm not entirely sure why, but maybe that's why I write so many fast-paced books? Case in point: I wrote Man Frame while listening to the Black Eyed Peas' The E.N.D..

But this John Legend song is completely the opposite. It's soulful and chill and just the perfect morning song. So wake up, people!

When Drake Layton tries to hire Jessica James, the only ancient Greek expert in the region, to translate an old parchment for his First Man, he gets rebuffed. He has no choice but to kidnap her and bring her to their compound.

As the Guardian, he should always be in control, of himself but also of his powers. So, why can’t he stop thinking about her?

She’s not his type but tell that to his body! When his First Man orders him to keep her happy so she works faster, he gives in to the lust inside him. What starts as a carefully thought-out plan to entice her, ends in his world being turned upside down.

But enemies are near, the ritual Jessica has transcribed so groundbreaking it needs to be protected at all costs. Faced with a life-changing decision, will Drake choose his calling…or her?

Excerpt

“What did you do?”

Drake stared at his First Man, the urge to fight hardening his muscles as he stood there, unmoving. “I didn’t do anything.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.” A pause then, “No.”

Jake’s eyebrows snapped together at his Guardian’s unusually hesitant response. “What the hell does that mean?”

“I told you about that time in the library, right? When I tried using my powers on her and it didn’t work?” His First Man nodded. “I think something else happened then. I’m not sure what, but there seems to be some kind of…of link between us now.”

“Link? Like what?”

“Like…” He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. When he reopened them, lust filled them. “I want her like I’ve never wanted anyone before in my life. She is so unlike my usual lovers, and yet my body doesn’t care. It’s as if it wants her, whoever she is. Whatever she looks like. It doesn’t care!” he repeated, his voice rising until his tirade ended on a near shout.

Jake stared at him for a second more before asking, “What are you saying? That your psi powers screwed up, and something else happened?”

“Yes. Yes, that is what I’m saying.”

“That’s impossible!”

“Don’t you think I know that? She shouldn’t have been able to ignore my injunctions when I told her to go to sleep. It worked when you tried it on her, didn’t it? So, what else could have happened?”

“You’re our most powerful wielder, Drake! You’re the fucking Guardian! If people learn that your powers are going nuts, can you imagine how that will make us look like? What if John gets hold of that information? Shit, can you imagine what will happen then?”

“I know, First Man. I know all that. Hence why I have been trying to fight this compulsion ever since it started.”

“Has that changed anything?”

Drake thought about lying, then realized he couldn’t. He might be the Guardian and ruthless if necessary, but he wasn’t a liar. He had never been. He sighed. “No. No, it hasn’t.”

Jake stood up to his full height and caught his gaze. “Then do the opposite, Drake. Fuck her. See if that changes anything. I need that translation. I needed it yesterday! Just go and do your freaking duty!”

“But−”

“I won’t repeat myself, Guardian.”

Shit, Drake thought as he turned around and made his way out of the room. Meanwhile, his body exulted to the point that by the time he was standing outside on the sidewalk, his pants were tenting in front of him. His cock was ready, even if his mind wasn’t…

New short story: Like This

Erotic Short
$0.99
Contemporary Romance / Ménage / Rubenesque

Blurb

One day, David dares his girlfriend, Lily, to spend the weekend naked. She agrees, but only if he does the same. However, by the next Saturday morning, she’s forgotten all about it. He finds her in the kitchen and reminds her of the rules, quickly undressing her before showing her why obeying him is the right thing to do.

When they have a guest over the next weekend, however, and David still wants her to be naked, she suddenly wonders whether that dare wasn’t created for an altogether different purpose…

Excerpt
“I’d pay to see you like this all the time.”

Lily looked over her shoulder at her boyfriend. “Really? How much?”

Lounging against the headboard, clad only in tight, black boxer shorts, David smiled even wider. “I don’t know. It’d depend on how long you’d stay naked for me.”

“Hmm, all night?”
He chuckled. “Baby, I love you, but you already sleep naked. I wouldn’t pay for that.”
She rolled her eyes a little as she rummaged through her underwear drawer. “Where is that damn bra?” she muttered to herself.
“So? How long?”
Lily let out a sigh. “I don’t know. All day?” she answered, her mind clearly not on his questioning.
“Sounds good to me. Let’s make it the whole weekend, and I’ll get you those boots you were admiring in the window the other evening.”
At his words, she drew herself up and turned to face him. Hands on her hips, she said, “You’re kidding, right? You want me to spend the whole weekend in the buff, and you’d actually get me a present for it?”
“Or…I could just dare you to do it.” He watched, amused, as she bit her lower lip. “Game?”
Her eyes darkened. “Game but only if you spend the weekend naked with me.”
He smirked. “Not a problem. I don’t mind taking my clothes off.”
It was her turn to laugh. “No kidding.”
As her gaze drifted over his body, it awakened the lust that was always present whenever she was near. Especially considering the way she looked right now: her wet hair trailing down her back in dark brown strands, her plump breasts jiggling every time she moved, her bare curves calling out to him. He felt his cock stir and moved to get off the bed, but she put her palm up in the air.
“Oh, no. I know that look. Not right now, Casanova. I need to get ready for work.”
“You can be late for once,” he cajoled as he walked to her.
“Nope. Not today, babe. I have an early meeting and…” Her voice trailed off when she spotted the erection distending his boxers. “Oh, hell.”
“Just a quickie then.”
She was still shaking her head when he reached for her, his mouth finding hers seconds later. She moaned, and he knew he had her right where he wanted her. Thoughts of the coming weekend made his cock jerk, and he hurriedly laid her down on the bed, spreading her legs wide so he could move between them. His gaze zeroed in on her glistening pussy, and he forgot about everything else but making his girlfriend scream in pleasure. He’d start his planning right after she came on his pounding cock…

1st review for Rough It Up!

Miz Bookworm over at Miz Love and Crew Love Books penned this short but sweet review of Rough It Up, the first one for this book:

Rough it Up lives up to the title and takes the reader through a different arena with regards to paranormal books. The chemistry is there between the two leads, and what I like is the battle of wills to fight the attraction. Alexa is not weak but a strong Alpha female who must learn to be tamed. Jay refuses to break down and the battle of wills is a wonderful change to read.

A quick paranormal with some serious sexy twists. Well worth the time to read.

Literary Nymphs review Finally His

Title:  Finally His
Author:  Emma Hillman
Publisher:  Ellora’s Cave
ISBN: 9781419936258
Genre:  {M/F} Contemporary
Rating:  3.5 Nymphs
Literary Nymphs Reviewer:  Amethyst Nymph

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.  There’s only one man Lucy wants and she’s determined to have him.  Lucy upped her game, so there was no way Nick could resist her this time.  This time, he would see her as more than just a disaster magnet.

Nick isn’t happy about being tricked into a blind date with his best friend’s sister.  Things always go wrong when Lucy’s involved and this date is no exception.  Not only does her short dress cause an accident, it also changes their relationship forever.  He’d tried everything to push Lucy away, even though that isn’t what Nick wants.

Things were going so smoothly for Lucy and Nick and they both seemed to be on the same page.  Unfortunately, Lucy and Nick aren’t honest with each other, so their new relationship gets put to the test.  Nick is a good guy, but he has moments that made me want to choke him.  Sometimes he’s just a first class jerk to Lucy.  I know he was trying to shield his feelings for her and keep a promise to his best friend but I think he could have juggled that better.  One particular bar scene with Nick and a blonde confused me a bit, but Lucy took it in stride and made it work.  She has so much spunk and determination that I think readers will cheer to see her happy, even though Lucy had moments where she seemed to contradict herself.  On one hand, she seems bold but then she seems insecure.  That made it a little difficult to imagine her stripping by the side of the road in front of Nick.

Finally His has a realistic approach to romance that will make readers smile and leave them with a comfortable feeling. Bad dates are something I wouldn’t wish on anyone, other than in a quirky story like this.  I had to admit, I laughed at Nick’s pain.   When a couple has history like these two, it’s easy to feel an emotional attachment with them. Love strikes when it wants and sometimes you just have to go with it. I’d say this is a great example of that.  If you appreciate diligence and torrid love scenes, you won’t want to skip this story.

...  Thanks a lot to Amethyst at Literary Nymphs for the great in-depth review, especially the comment about the realistic approach to romance. That's exactly what I was going for with this story so I'm glad that the reviewer picked up on it!
